Subject: RE: Web hosts..I don't know who is best, but the real answer to that will lie in you first determining your needs -- how much space do you need, do you have any idea how much monthly data transfer/bandwidth you'll need, will your site need support for any "advanced" technologies like ASP.NET, DreamWeaver, ColdFusion, Flash, etc..? Will you be building the site on your own, using a canned solution, or hiring a developer to custom-roll a solution? I've used virtual private servers from aSmallOrange and 1and1.com. I've also had a dedicated server from 1and1. All were decent and affordable for what they were, but that is mostly because on the technology side of things I was comfortable doing everything on my own. Since then, I outgrew those solutions and have since gone the route of building my own physical server and shipping it to a Tier 1 datacenter for colocation hosting. I now own the costs for all of the hardware and it's on me if something fails/crashes, but I also got all the horsepower I wanted and then some..... but, again, it all came down to needs. |
