Again....I will say this one more time:

More women in combat means more women sexually assaulted.  You don't have to believe me, you can just watch and see.  Your righteous stance means nothing. 

And before you try to say it.....I'm not saying it's right....I'm just stating a reality.  

Go on and send your wives and daughters to the front lines, whatever.

more men on the front lines must mean... more men killed in action.. omg you are on to something. why are we putting people in harms way.   we should make sure the people put in these positions are aware of the risks!

That's excellent....now let's talk about the percentage of women who were sexually assaulted vs. the number of men....even though women were a fraction of the force in country.

No. Them being there causes problems that don't exist without them being there.  There are enough problems in war.

Just to be clear......there is no way you could know me and not think I would fight to the death to keep someone from being victimized in any way....I hate people who hurt others with every fiber of my being.  

That being said......the reality is there is always some idiot, or group of idiots, almost always men, who will take advantage of any situation where they think they can exploit others, especially women.....it's why the statistics of women being sexually assaulted in the military are so far above the general population.  

Why make it worse?  Why make me, and the overwhelming majority of men like me, have to deal with those morons in the middle of fighting a war?  

You can argue all you want that it's not right, and I agree.....but the reality is what it is.  More women in combat means more women sexually assaulted.  Why go there?

Funny- I was just at a talk today about women in the workforce.  The speaker mentioned the difference she saw when women reached a critical mass (which in some cases was more than 1) in management and serving on a board of directors.  She talked about how differently men and women communicate and how the addition of a second female could change the way a board communicated.  It was a fascinating talk.

I wonder if the same dynamics would impact the situation over seas.  So by adding more women you change the environment and reduce the potential for problems.  I sure hope that is the case.  Different perspectives bring new ideas.

I agree 100% with the first part of your post......the second part is wrong....it's not a boardroom....it's a war.  The only perspective needed is to kill the people on the other side....that's the ONLY perspective.  That's how wars are won.

Add women, and a percentage of those fighters act like criminal animals......just watch.  It's wrong, you won't hear me argue that......but you won't change it.  It's a horrible reality...but it IS reality.  

Women in the military are subjected to sexual assault at a rate much greater than the general population....it will get worse with women on the front lines.  I have no faith in a certain percentage of men to act decently in those conditions.  I just don't.

One interesting legal side effect.... it is likely that in the near future women will be required to register with the Selective Service at 18.

That is what is so ridiculous about political correctness... you have to ignore reality for it to work. I'm going to be incredibly insensitive and chauvinistic right now.... men and women are different. No, they are not "equal"... they are different. Not better than/less than... different. See it all starts with one penis, and one vigina... see, different.

Women should not be in combat. Has nothing to do with ability, or equality. It has to do with warfare and combat. When you put penises and viginas together... it causes problem. In war, there are lot's of problems. You do not need more.

And for all you people screaming about equality... then why are there men's and women's restrooms? Why are there on war ships? Why is there men and women berthing, bedding, dorm rooms? In the service, I slept, ate, worked, sweated, defecated and urinated 24/7 with my shipmates. There was not one second of privacy, not one inch of freedom. My crew compartment housed 9 guys in a closet. I can only imagine the same in the field. If we are all equal, then why the need to seperate?

The battle field is hard enough... but sure, in between all the killing, lets introduce hormonal stressed out 20 year old sexes and see what happens.

No, there was ALOT that did not look right about this thread,  

going back to crowny's original post, i heard about this on NPR in the morning and i'm thrilled.  when i considered joining the navy 10 years ago, a big part of the reason i didn't go forward with it was because some of the coolest jobs were off-limits to me, just because i have a vag.  it's 2013, people, we can do better than this.

As someone who volunteered, and my parents did not really 'approve' (they accepted that it was MY choice and did not hide me so the Army couldn't find me, like you say you'd do with your daughters Left Brain...) I find this whole discussion disgusting and offensive. You say you have family experience with the military, but it's hard to believe when you make comments like you do. Maybe you make them because you had family serve, but what have YOU done and what constructive ideas do you have besides hiding your daughters? 

I'm not going to go into specifics about my service, but while I was active duty, I did try to find the most "special forces" route possible. There are positions out there that put women in more small-unit roles, either intelligence, civil affairs worldwide, etc. The hoops were great and women not allowed to do many things, even though there is a need. Yes, there is a need. 

No one is forced to join the military at this time. You get to choose your job or path (for the most part, unless you're doing something like OCS---which is a choice). 

As someone who performed physically well in the military, LOVE adventure and adrenaline, I would have jumped at any chance for some kind of special assignment/job that would put me behind some questionable lines. There are many opportunities out there that do not require you to be on a hilltop as a sniper.

I find the job Dumpsters SIL does fascinating and I respect her for it. I would LOVE to do that. It's hard. It's respected. Women are out there, doing jobs on the "front lines" and aren't represented as such. 

 Oh yeah, women are raped during deployments, on the FOB. Women who aren't in 'combat' roles, but ones in support positions who never leave the base. IT CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE. To say thats going to be the side effect of 'combat' roles is ridiculous. I highly doubt a woman is going to be attacked by her platoon or unit while rucking through the mountains. Sure, it *could* happen, but it's happening everywhere else too. Like the AF Academy. Or the recruiters office. Or small towns with people that have nothing to do with the military. 

Haven't read through entire thread but think about this. How is a 125-135 lb woman going to hump 40 lbs of armor, 60-80 lbs rucksack(back pack) 15-20 lbs of ammunition and weapon and 10 lbs of hydration? Can she carry a mortar base plate along with this? Just wondering.

What kind of drama would you think could go on at a remote FOB (Forward Operating Base) with say 20-25 18-22 yr old males and 3 18-22 yr old females?

Is she going to be able to drag a 160-180 lb male behind a wall? Want to yeah, Can, dont know.
