Pre-race routine:

Standing around in a tent that had a heater...doing a few stretches, and eating 1/2 a powerbar about 30 mins prior to the gun going off.
Event warmup:

They did a 5 mins dance routine. It was entertaining to watch, but I stayed in the tent.
Run
  • 1h 05m 16s
  • 9.32 miles
  • 07m  min/mile
Comments:

At the 8k mark, I was passed by a runner that was stalking me for a bit and when I asked him what our pace was (I don't have a watch) he replied "4:30 per kilometer." That didn't help me much since I think in miles. LOL
What would you do differently?:

Not drink so damn much alcohol 2 days before my race. I was very, very hung over on Saturday, slept on the train on the way up. I did go to bed early Saturday night and I ate well all day Saturday.
Post race
Warm down:

I had to walk 1.5 miles in the rain back to the B&B I was staying at. Fortunately, they let me check out an hour after check out time, so I was able to take a hot shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Drinking with my Brother Friday night and not knowing what my per kilometer goal pace was. I should have done the match before hand.

Event comments:

I would consider doing this race again because of the time of year, only next time I will make a 3 day weekend out of it and throw in a day or 2 of skiing while in Vancouver BC.

Performance: Good
I had a goal of going sub 7:00 min pace on this course. I missed it by 2 seconds overall. :) That's ok, it will totally motivate me on those days I don't feel like running.
Course: The course was a great out and back course that took us through the city of Vancouver via a trail along the water. We ended up running through a park where some parts of the course were gravel. Very nice run, and perfect weather as I love to run in the rain.

Ah, so close to your goal!  Without a doubt you will reach your goal next race.  Blame it on the mi/km uncertainty!  Agreed, B&Bs make nice race accomodations as they are often more lenient with late check-out times than the bigger hotels.  Nice you were able to get a hot shower after racing and walking in the rain.
