For those who have been on a Disney Cruise, I have a very important question....

Did you dress up as a pirate on Pirate night?  How many people actually do this?  The Hubby and I are taking the kids on a Disney Cruise next month and the Hubby wants to dress up....I say forget it, just let the kids dress up!  It's just one more thing to pack!

WSS...If I go on a Disney Cruise, I'm totally dressing like a pirate! That sounds awesome!

My daughter gets off the ship tomorrow after 18 weeks of working in the Youth Activities Department. I'll get some feedback for you.

We went to the Pirate and Princess party at WDW park.  I didn't dress up, but I was surprised by the number of people who did.  It made it lots of fun seeing entire families of Pirates.  There was also an entire family of Princesses, I guess the husband was out voted.  I don't think they have that anymore.

We recently returned from a Disney Cruise, I would say that 85% of the ship brought their own costumes for pirate night.  My wife actually went out the day after Halloween and bought everything the store had that was pirate themed.  Disney provides bandanna's for those who did not pack their own pirate gear.  Everyone is really into this night and I can say that I would have been upset if I decided not to participate.  I admit that I was on the fence about it up until the point we left our room for dinner and that quickly went away after seeing everyone dressed up and we had a blast.

PS. If you are stopping in Castaway Cay, they offer a 5k first thing in the morning.  There is nothing better than a free 5k in the Bahamas.  Also, they have spin classes every day the ship is at sea.  My ship (Magic) had I think 8 bikes, they can be reserved 24 hours in advance.  The class was so popular that 15-20 people were on the waiting list each day.

Enjoy your cruise,

Matt

OK, my daughter just got back from her first contract. She said this night is one of the big deals on the ship. She was surprised at first how much people got into it, full blown Halloween type costumes, etc. Do it, and have fun with it. Your kids will too.

Okay, okay!  You've all convinced me!  The DH is off work today and is going to check out the local party store.  We will dress as a family of pirates ARRRRRR! :-)

MAttrp - I just wish I had been smart enough to go right after Halloween, too!

Do it! We went on a DC in '09  and it was a blast. The Pirate Party is a good time, the fireworks are insane, and best of all the post party buffet spread is great. Think big turkey legs - perfect pirate food. We are going again in August, and I plan on bringing some type of costume, even if its just an eye patch and head scarf. Both my kids dressed up and loved it.

We went on a Disney cruise, and most of us were dreading it as we are not "cruise" people; turned out to be a great time and one of the best vacations ever. My wife loved it… as we both got training time and she was not burned with “kid” duty, meal planning and related domestic job requirements that follow on most vacations.

Regarding Pirate night, well...not being cruise people we did not plan to dress up. After a few drinks at dinner and the overall ships atmosphere of Pirate Party, we ended up acquiring several articles of clothing and accessories. Since that time, my kids have been pretty impressive pirates for Halloween.
So you can 1) take stuff to dress up, 2) wait and buy stuff on the ship or 3) just go as you are and enjoy it. With a Disney cruise there is no pressure, you can be as “in” to all the various activities as you choose…
