I'm in. Luckily with a discount and early registration I got in for $80.

I doubt it's going to be anymore "wow" than other races. Music every mile? Nice, but I don't dig live bands, so it's not a selling point for me. I can see how others would find it very appealing though.

I just wanted to do it since it is a team race for my tri club.

If you have ran the Dallas 13.1 or parts of the new Dallas Metro PCS then you have ran parts of this course. It is pretty good, lots of people out on the course and the bands of course.

You can see the other runners in a few spots which is good for your motivation or you get to help motivate others...

If you stay in Dallas be prepared for the travel required to get back to downtown or drive over. The run starts downtown and ends at Fair park. Shuttles will NOT return downtown or to the Start Line after the race.

When your done hang out and watch the show... its free, well not really you had to run 13.1.

This shocks me.  I signed up even though the "transportation" part of their website still says "details coming soon".  How can they start and end the race so far apart and not offer any shuttle at all?

I think they are saying that the shuttles will take you from fair Park to the start before the race starts, but will not run after the start

Actually, from the event website:

There is NO official start line parking on race day.Participants are encouraged to park at Fair Park near Finish Line and take the FREE shuttles to the Start Line Village at Dallas City Hall Plaza.

So they offer transportation in the reverse direction, before the race.

You park at Fair Park which is the finish line, and take the shuttle to the start line at City Hall.  You finish at Fair Park where both the finish line and you car is.  Am I not understanding something?

No, you are not misunderstanding anything.  I found this to be a bit backwards, most events I've done with different start/finish locations shuttle back to the start.  Just means getting up 30 minutes earlier.

?You must drive your car to Fair Park, park your car, then take the shuttle back to the start line (DOWNTOWN) then run to Fair Park and drive home… BEST IDEA

If you do not drive over to Fair Park you will need to have someone pick you up (VERY LONG WIAT LINES) or take a taxi (IF YOU CAN FIND ONE, SOME ROADS CLOSED), or TRE which is located out front of Fair Park some distance from the finish area.

Every year I see people wondering around like where are the shuttles…

The shuttles are only in the AM prior to 7:00 and run FROM Fair Park to Downtown…

Shuttles will NOT return downtown or to the Start Line after the race.

Participants are encouraged to park at Fair Park near Finish Line and take the FREE shuttles to the Start Line Village at Dallas City Hall Plaza.

Runner drop-off near the start village(DOWNTOWN)is available until 7:30am.

Shuttle Times: 5:00am- 6:30am *Last shuttles at 7 am.

Shuttle Pick Up:Near Gate 8 inFair Park

Shuttle Cost: Free (Participants only- must show bib)

Read in the athletes guide yesterday that you have to pick up your own packet.  This is really inconvenient.  I was planning on going Friday afternoon to get mine and Steve's.  Getting there Saturday is very inconvenient.

Has anyone had experience with this.  Do they really enforce it?

My experience is they do enforce the pick up policy.

I tried to pick up my wife's at RNR San Antonio in Nov and was not allowed to.

They NEED to change this policy but I understand if they did the expo would not get the traffic they want/need (lots people = lots of vendors).

There is a "Solutions" desk if there is a party that cannot make the expo but they (RNR) keep that pretty quite...

I did this race 2 years ago.  It was a fiasco for my wife and son.  They rode the shuttle with me from fair park to city plaza.  Watched me start.

But no shuttles ran from city plaza back to fair park.  they had to ride DART or something (i forgot exactly how they got back to the finish).  But it took them nearly 2 hours.  Barely in time to see me finish.  It is certainly not spectator friendly.

Unless you plan which is NO fun it can be a nightmare! My wife and I did this run together only once and we had issues getting out of the lot; over one and a half hours (roads still closed? Not sure what the problems was

Now I run and she stays at the Hotel and has breakfast! (SHE IS SMARTER THAN ME!!!)

42 degrees with 20+ mph northern winds, gusts up to 30 mph.  At least we'll have a tailwind for the 2nd half.

The parking and shuttle makes perfect sense. The City of Dallas is shutting down major streets in downtown Dallas and they have to have officers and barricades in place prior to the race. They can't spend all morning let drivers in and out for the race parking and make sure the race gets started on time.

The packet pickup is pretty standard except for rallies. Since it is a race typically all competitors have to show ID for the waiver and race check in. I know all of the cycling and Tri races that I do require in person pickup. Only rallies allow anyone to pick up packets.

Here are my event comments from my race report:

This was a well run show. I thought being shuttled from Fair Park over to downtown Dallas would be a nightmare (most of the time shuttle situations are). But it wasn't! That was nice! Plenty of aid stations and volunteers. Easy to walk around after the race (it wasn't after Cowtown). The course was fine. Pretty cool running downtown Dallas on roads I have only driven on. With all of that said, I don't get why this race is so much money. Sure, there are bands, but there weren't anymore bands than what Cowtown had. Paying $100-$150 for a half marathon is ridiculous. Luckily I got some discounts and paid $80 back in December. While it was a nice race, I didn't see anything that made it that much more "WOW" than say, the Cowtown or Dallas Marathon (even both of those races gave "finisher" t-shirts). Would I do it again? Sure. But I wouldn't pay full price. No way. Nice race, but not worth $100-$150.

It was nice to see all the people out running. When I see 14,000 people doing a half marathon, I wonder how we have such an obesity epidemic. But I know 14,000 is still a very small portion of the population. Just good to see people getting out and being healthy!
