I'm in as well. As a third year triathlete, this will be my first pool swim tri. Excited but a bit anxious as it takes me a bit to get race ready (love training in warmer/hot weather best). This early season tri will be an interesting way to gauge my fitness at this point. I too will drive down in the next couple weeks to ride the bike course to familiarize myself with it. Should be fun!

This will be my first TRI ever.  Have to start somewhere and thought a pool swim would be ideal.  Should be fun

not going to mind the wind too much, but it would be nice if the warm weather showed its face...

Trekked down to Riverwinds yesterday morning for a recon ride of the bike course. Wow is it flat and fast. Yep the winds were howling on parts of the ride but hey, I'd rather have winds on a flat course than on a hilly one. I assume the entrance road is the run course. If it is, it flat and pretty. Won't really stress about weather/temps. If it sucks one way or another, just try and go faster that way it'll be over sooner.

wow, thats funny, i did the same thing. I was there about 10:30am.  Myself and a friend of mine that are both doing the race decided to scout it out.  Yes, it was flat, yes it was very windy and yes it was fast.  I am very new to biking, but I was able to stay on the big ring for about 90% of the bike course and on one of the small down hill portions I hit 27mph.  Probably the fastest I have gone on the bike so far and finished the route in just over 35 mins.  I was very surprised.   I loved it.  I also set a new PR for my 3 mile run time coming off the bike.    From what I know, the entrance road is only "part" of the run course.  You actually take off from the transition area and run AWAY from the entrance road and back towards the Delaware river.  There is a trail that goes into the woods there.  You take that trail for just over a mile and then go thru the parking lot and then out onto the area where the entrance road is and then you go out probably just under 1 mile distance and then turn around.  My friend did the race before and thats the path he showed me and thats what shows up online at the riverwinds site.   Im getting pretty excited about my first race there.  Should be a ton of fun

I just turned 40 in March so I guess its the 40-44 male?  This is my first tri ever and although I was a runner for a couple of years, I never competitively biked and never swam correctly until mid January a few months ago.  Training has been going great though.  Really excited for this race.  Good Luck there Jorgito22, you should definitely like the bike course.  Very slight up hills at a few spots, but overall, pretty much flat although very windy coming right off the Delaware river.

Quick question, I checked on the riverwinds site but didn't see it in the rules.  I know that your not allow to listen to music on the course, but I usually run with my phone that I attach to my arm with a band and i use the nike+ app while running to measure my distance and pace.   Anybody know if that is against the rules?   I assume it would be ok seeing how you can wear watches that do the same thing.

Something like that is usually at the discretion of the race director.  The music is more about having headphones on.  If you are using it without headphones, they'd probably be OK with it.

Thanks for the info.  Yea, I DO NOT wear any headphones with it.  I just keep it on my arm.  I found an email address on the site where I signed up for the race.  Not sure if it is the right people to contact about it, but I sent them an email and asked if they could answer it for me or point me in the right direction.   I really hope its allowed.  I really have a tendancy to go out fast off of the bike and I don't want to burn myself out early.  I am very new to doing bricks, so I don't have a good feel yet of pacing off the bike and I need that app

I just got the email with turn by turn directions for the bike course.  Crap!  In my scouting rides, I was riding the course in reverse (1st time doing this race)....wtf!  Oh well...guess that hill at mile 8 will turn into a downhill at mile 3.  LOL!!

In all seriousness...why in the heck is this bike course laid out with many LEFT turns...which forces bikes riders to cross the traffic lanes (assuming we won't be riding on the left of the roadway).

Anyway...I'll hit it hard but it just seems illogical to me.  All it takes is someone not paying attention and you have a bad situation.

I didn't even think about it that way with all the lefts until you said something.  Yea, that makes more sense.

On the lighter side........... Weather.com is showing 69 degress and sunny with a 9mph wind.   Sounds like a great day.  I know the wind will be much stronger than 9mph riding near the river, but still, all in all it sounds like we are going to have a great race day.  Enjoy it everybody

it may be a bit cooler at the start of the bike,  What does everyone plan on wearing if it is cooler. I'm thinking some gloves and than normal tri gear, and just man it up if its too cold or hot...haha

This is my first tri, so its going to be a learning experience.  The low on Saturday night says 49 degrees.  I assume it will be low to mid 50's by about 8am or so on Sunday, so i don't think I'm throwing on too much extra stuff.  I will keep on my tri shorts and I have a compression shirt that I am throwing on for the bike/run.   The compression shirt is bright neon yellow.  I figure it catches a lot of peoples eyes, and I figured if people are looking at me, it might make me try and push harder.  So if you all seen a guy with a shaved head and a bright yellow top and I'm sucking, feel free to to add a "get your a$$ moving" to your "on your left" that you yell at me

Jen the race director over at riverwinds is fantastic.  I updated my swim time about a month ago but since I am new to swimming, I am making gains each time I hit the pool.  I finally had my last trial run this morning and crushed my old time.  I went to update my time but they had already shut down the ability to edit my time.  My previous time was 3:58 and my new time is 3:35.  Thats a pretty big difference and I didn't want to cause any problems with catching up to people who started in front of me, so I asked her if she could change it for me and she did it no problem.

Also, I don't think they handed out bib numbers yet, but because of this issue I found out mine.  She said that I am listed as bib 100 but I will now start behind bib number 82 for the swim portion.  Guess my time moved me up 18 slots.   Anyways, number 100 is an easy number to remember.  If you happen to see me on race day, feel free to come over and let me know your from BT.  I have a few people going with me, but could always use somebody else to talk to, to calm down my nerves

Yep...I don't see it getting warmer than 48 or so for the duration of the race.

Not having done a chilly weather race before (mostly summer, hot, races) I am a bit flip-floppy on what to wear.

This is my plan (feel free to comment and/or advise):

Swim:  tri shorts & sleeveless compression top

Bike:  Same.  I may put on arm warmers and/or a nylon shell pullover.

Run:  Same...but without arm warmers/shell if I've decided on those.

Race vets...feel free to comment.

Thanks.
