Subject: Can I whine about this weather?

I just wanted to whine to a group that can empathize with me about this not good for early season racing weather Cry

I'm doing a late May race (Island Lake) and may have to wait until a few short weeks before the races to get an OWS.  I'm predicting wetsuit legal until at least the end of June Smile

Can I at least get a plus 50 degree and sunny weekend plus no snow in the forecast to justify taking the trainer tire off the bike for the season??

We were spoiled last year.....remember that few days at the end of February that were in the low 70's?  And we were good to outdoor train for the whole rest of spring by that time.

I am whining right there with you.

And it was snowing again this morning on my way to work. *sob*

At this rate we'll still be on the trainer when Hines Drives starts closing on Saturdays for the summer. =(

I'm with you both.  Looks like the weather will remain this way till at least April.  No time off the trainer in the forseeable future.  Oh well on the bright side I sighned up for CDA this year and it looks like I'll get to practice some cold swimms before that trip to Idaho.......

I want to die.  For the love, this is the worst part of the year and is the only time of the year that I regret moving here--I miss the southern spring that turns 75 degrees by the beginning of March.

One year difference is unreal.  I had trained at ILRA multiple times by this time last year, felt good doing it, and was excited about it.  Hard to keep getting on the trainer the closer we get to April.  I don't see myself on the bike outdoor any time soon, either (yes, I'm a bit of a weather wuss).

You have every right to whine.

Yup. Ran the Leprechaun Loop last year in Port Huron to the tune of 80 degree temps.  Ran it again this year through slush and cold, damp weather.  My feet were wet and I was semi miserable until I hit the hot shower and warm brekkie with friends.  And immediately started thinking about beating my time at the next year Leprechaun Loop.  Smile

This weather is horrid.  I regret not going out on that day when it got up to 45 a few weeks back... I thought it was only going to get nicer! :/

I'm actually getting worried about Island Lake (the triathlon).  I do not like cold water, and I may seriously consider not doing it if the water doesn't warm up.  There still may be time since it's two months away, but with this frigid cold right now, I just am not able to imagine the water warming up for it!  Yes I'm a wuss.

Phew!  Glad it's not just me grumbling Smile

Okay, 10 day forecast has us at 48 for the last day of March.  Fingers crossed that we squeeze out another 10 degrees by mid-April.  You know you live in Michigan when high 50's seems like a dream!

As for the swimming, I remember the winter being similar to this two years ago.  We were still able to get a few good training days in Kent Lake and the Island Lake early season tri went pretty well.....don't give up hope yet Michgirlsk!!

x100.  I am disappointed in myself for whining, but I am SO demoralized right now I am this close to quitting training.  I used to LOVE winter, but the repeated sub zero feeling weather in the early morning, worrying about killing myself on the ice, not being able to run trails b/c of the ice, and the walking around all day with frost bitten cheeks (no matter what I do for protection) looking like a drunken Irishman is just too much for one girl to take.

I've done The last 10 weeks of marathon training exclusively outside and just got pushed over the edge last week, but running on a treadmill this week also did me in.  I have a 14 mile run tomorrow morning, slated to be 22 in Ann Arbor - "real feel," oh, what 15. Seriously?  I don't have the luxury of waiting until 2:00 p.m. when it's 35, maybe.

Somehow I will find the strength to pull it off, but I'm not enthusiastic. <<sigh>>

I am losing my ####### mind.  I resorted to doing a 2-hour trainer/treadmill brick watching NASCAR last Sunday, of all things.  If not for my two scheduled days in the high school pool each week, I'd have ZERO structure to my workouts.  I added a kayak to the multi-sport mix last year and the darn thing makes me sad every time I see it in the garage knowing that its so dang cold and using it is that much farther away.  Only thing keeping me going is that we have a vacation planned for the kids break and the looooog term forecast has things in the 80s & 90s.  With any luck I can bring some of the warmth back with me.

MORE snow in the forecast for next week??????  NOOOOOOO!!

MI gang, let's just take the next month off from our jobs, go out west or down south with our bikes and gear, rent a giant house and do the outdoor training of which we're being robbed!!  Who's with me?? Wink

Aero, sounds like you're actually doing that for a week.  You picked a great time for a family vaca somewhere warm!

Excellent, Aero!

I'm regretting not booking one of those last minute Groupon / Living Social / TravelZoo deals somewhere warm for April as the weather does not seem to be breaking any time soon.

Unreal.  All I know is I'm posting a note to my mirror that under no circumstances can I make any remarks about the weather this summer if it turns horridly hot or humid Cool

I have an aunt who lives in Florida. Let's go. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if her niece showed up with 10 random people and truckloads of triathlon gear. And I'm sure my employer wouldn't mind if I "worked" from Florida via my laptop for a month.

What is the e-mail for the Michigan Mother Nature branch? We need to launch a campaign to promote good weather.

Sheesh! Cold=Sucks.

I thought about this thread this morning as I was leaving the Y and discovered a dusting of snow on the ground and on my car. UGH.

Apparently for the first time ever, we should be glad we are in Michigan rather than a few hours south, as the middle of Indiana got pounded overnight.  Doesn't make me feel any better about this weather, honestly!

I want to die.  Yes I can be a bit hyperbolic, but there are times when I'm on the treadmill or trainer and I think "this isn't worth it, just kill me"

I usually have this thought with each and every step of every single run that I do.

Hey.  We're neighbors.  When the weather warms up, lets go for a ride (since you hate running).

You got it.  I have a couple of others who might be interested too.  Not sure where you do a lot of your riding, but I've found some places I feel *relatively* safe going out from Jenison into Hudsonville and such.  I tend to be sprint focused so our goals may not align (going on memory from your posts that you may be focused on HIM and IM?), but doesn't stop a few group rides!

Maybe a few swims at 8th Avenue park down then road, too...but I'm *that* guy who has an allergy to something in a lot of lakes and yet still swims, so I get out and start getting sneezy and bloodshot.

So...

1.  Hate running?  Check (albeit that may improve with my new custom orthotics).

2.  Allergic to lake swimming?  Check

Seems like a good combo for being a triathlete right?  Good thing I'm a moron who just does it anyways!

Is 8th Avenue park a good place to swim?  I'm living in Allendale over the summer (originally from the Detroit area) and haven't had any opportunities to look for clean/safe open water swim practice locations in the area.
