Total Time = 1h 49m 25s
Overall Rank = 372/559
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 22/39
Pre-race routine:

This was a all pretty mental. Since I did a dry run last weekend I didn't need to figure out the course.
Swim
  • 13m 32s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not as bad as I thought it would be. I couldn't get my timing right since everyone was running into each other, but there were stretches where I made some decent progress.
What would you do differently?:

Work harder on OWS endurance. I didn't start working OWS until the last 3 weeks, and I really didn't push myself. Now that I've got past the psychological aspect, I think I can focus on my time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

My bike shirt was tough getting on over a wet body, but I did get into the rest of my stuff pretty easily.
What would you do differently?:

Use a sleeveless bike shirt and dry off before putting it on. Would like to cut 1 minute off my time.
Bike
  • 1h 01m 53s
  • 17.6 miles
  • 17.06 mile/hr
Comments:

My chain fell off when I was climbing on of the biggest hills. Fortunately I practiced this and I only lost probably lost less than 15 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Work on the hills better. I was able to make good time on flat straightways but lost time on the hills. It would be great to maintain my lead.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
What would you do differently?:

Just work on overall speed. Maybe race shoelaces.
Run
  • 30m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

Real tough for the first 10 minutes. I walked through the hydration stops and sometimes a little too long. The last 15 minutes was much easier and I could increase my strides to make up some time. However, based on my ranking I think I did pretty good for my first tri.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace earlier... I'm not sure how to do this other than just continuing to work on my bricks. My strides at first seemed like I was walking. Fortunately there were many others that were walking, which allowed me to pass them up.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

It was my first tri so I can't compare to others... but I thought that it was well managed and a lot of fun. Placing 22 in a field of 39 was much better than I anticipated. Now I got 2 months to train for the T-Man and improve my overall time.

Great job for your first tri!

A couple of tips...
-Put some baby powder on the inside of your bike shirt before the race and it will help putting a lot when you go to put it on in T1.
-buy some Yankz! speedlaces....they are amazing!

Thanks for the advice... I almost gave up on the shirt but I finally got it down. I doubt it caused too much time but it felt like forever.
