Swim
Comments: No specific data was obtained from race officials on ranking related to swim, but I did much better than last year What would you do differently?: Very pleased with the swim. Obviously if I had worked harder previous to the event, things would have gone even better...but no complaints with 34:10 Transition 1
Comments: Transition was just "ok". Given the distance from the run to the bike I was pleased. What would you do differently?: Not so much. Bike
Comments: Things went bad on the bike. Everything started out pretty well and I was feeling average, but better than last year. Flat #1: first flat I have EVER had on the bike, tried to fix it..flat #2: obviously didn't fix it right? Well there were actually 3 holes, and 2 separate fixes. Despite the fact that I did carry the equipment the pump was slow, the weather hot and sweaty and I could only pump up to 38 pounds. (I started at 70 for the Cronus). Just went from bad to bad. What would you do differently?: Absolutely would buy better patches. My training buddy had "Park" brand patches which worked (when place on all 3 holes). Next, would invest in cartridges for tire inflation (not available in Kenya) and finally, I would carry a new tube...for sure. The actual time was over 3 hours, but at least I did finish the bike. However, here are some good things. Better hydration this time. Took salt supplements and that helped significantly. No dizziness or clouding of thought. Transition 2
Comments: The transition was not very smooth, although I was spent from the bike given the 2 flat repairs, the heat and trying to make up time. What would you do differently?: Don't try to make up time..it is what it is. Run
Comments: Here things began to cave. I actually did not do bad on my first mile and knew that I would likely have to walk after the second mile. I didn't feel bad, but was completely and utterly spent. I ran out of time and was not able to finish the distance What would you do differently?: Again, I would not try to "make up" for lost time on the bike unless I actually had the reserve to do it. Post race
Warm down: Did some walking and hydration with buddies. What limited your ability to perform faster: The bike repair and lack of discipline addressing the lost time associated with the bike Last updated: 2012-10-09 12:00 AM

More rest prior to race day this time. Increased carbs 72 hours prior, but no real difference from my daily routine
Stretching, active movement bringing my heart rate up 100, again nothing really special
