Pre-race routine:

Part of a Powerbar on the way to the race, and 2 Roctanes about an hour and about 20 minutes pre-race. Sipping on Roctane Drink the whole time.

Ran about 1.2 miles while the long course athletes were out there.

Went out in first pretty hard, then was caught and eased up. Took the lead for good around the 1.5 mile mark.

Not much. Went out hard but not TOO hard.

Tried to hold everyone off as long as possible. I was surprised I wasn't being passed!! NO ONE passed me on the bike! I was spinning hard.

Legs were HEAVY and I could not catch my breath! I was really trying to go, but felt like I wasn't moving. I was still in the lead, but I was running scared!!
What would you do differently?:

Not a whole lot - I was going as hard as I could even though I hoped to be 0:15 / mile faster.
