Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 5:10 had 1/2 cup of coffe so I wouldn't get a headache 2slices toast with almond butter and half a banana and water. I was using this as a training day so didn't feel nervous at all. We met Amanda and Maria at 6:15 and drove together, had time for a brisk walk and to use the port potty. Daryn was already in the coral a bit ahead of us.

Comments:

I know I could of went faster, but this was the test for Syracuse I am definetly more aware of what I need to do now.
What would you do differently?:

Warm down:

I stretched really good and the cramping felt better, we waited for Maria to finish then came home and AJ made us all a huge breakfast and we all got to hang out and spend a great morning together. It was an awesome day!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Dress differently, I hate being cold and it was cold to start but warmed up very quickly so had my jacket wrapped around my waist I should of brought something not so new that I could have taken off and left.

Course: The course is pretty flat, with a few rollers, I have been running a lot of hills prepping for Syracuse so theses were all pretty easy. Amanda started out with me and about 1/2 mile in she looked at me and asked if I would mind if she left me, which was awesome of her but I knew she needed to move faster than I could so off she went. I felt good through the whole run, i knew this was a training run so didn't push to hard, the test was to get thru feeling good knowing I had a swim later and a long bike the next day, and figuring out how to put it all together for Syracuse. I took a few clif bloks at mile 8 and drank a bit at every station. I got to mile 12 and thought for the first time that i was getting a little tired, I made the last turn with about 1/4 mile to go and something inside me said run hard when I got home and looked at my watch info I was actually running 7:31 for about 5 seconds right at the end! :) when I finished my entire lower body went into one big cramp something I have never experienced.

It sounds like you had a really great day with family running with you and spending much of the day together.  It sounds like you fueled well too.  Taking the shot bloks where you did seems to have been good placement to have finished the race with fuel from there.  and since you weren't planning to run a "race" on this day to have begun to feel tired at mile 12 was likely good timing.

Good job! .......Get ready for Syracuse!

JoAnne congrats on a very good race. I think it was great to use the HM as a training run for Syracuse. You sound like you paced well and your nutrition was pretty solid for the entire run. The Syracuse run is supposed to be very tough so good to get this one under your belt.
