New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() After my first experience with the "hills" at Clinton Lake, I am wondering anyone knows of any hills around Wichita to train on. |

![]() | ![]() You can find some pretty good rollers out near Latham, Ks. If you go to Leon, park at the school and head south you can get some pretty good hill work done. The roads are chip seal though, and it's worth taking a drive out that way to make sure they have not recently dumped on the roads. |

I've been out there a couple of times now, and it's pretty decent. If you want to start closer, the while route from Andover/rose hill road east through Douglass out to Lisa's loop is pretty (relatively) hilly. |

You can park at Target at 21st and Greenwich, go east on 21st to Andover Road, south to 13th, 13th to Greenwich, south to Central and back to Andover. That's about a 15+mile loop, or you can go East and West on 13th, and just do those hills. Very little traffic in the mornings on weekends. |

I rode in Lenexa/Shawnee (KC area) on Sunday and THOSE are freaking hills. I highly recommend taking a road trip to head up there, or heck even back to Lawrence to get in some real hill work. Camp or get a cheap hotel for the night and make it a fun weekend! Here is the 35- miles of hills that almost did me in (in KC area) - ok the first 35; the last 12 were to Olathe and pretty flat: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/228034483 My Latham route has a few hills, but nothing like Lawrence/KC. New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lisa - Your Latham route has some nice rollers. However I found that if you take the short course backwards you get hit right out of the start with a nice hill that is brutal. I have been out a couple times to just do repeats on that one hill. I have also been told that there is a nice hill out on 21st street west heading out to Cheney Lake that is a good training hill to do repeats on. I haven't had a chance to go out and look for it though. |

![]() | ![]() I think I'm going to head out to Latham this weekend (Saturday morning?) and do 2 of the long loops (I need to get in 90 miles) if anyone wants to join! Fair warning I ride a ~15mph pace ![]() Edited by lisac957 2013-06-20 12:00 PM |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 90 miles? Training for a full IM? I am looking to end my heavy week here before Mudwater. Not sure 90 is in my training plan. However I will most likely make it out there to hit the hill for some repeats. |

I leave my car where the "start" marker is on my map: technically the corner of SE Cole Creek Rd and SE 210th. There is a small building there that says "Clay Center" on the side. Ah I found a pic: |
