Pre-race routine:

Day before the race met up with a buddy and we ran though everything 1000 yard swim 12 miles on bike and 2.5 mile run.
Swim
  • 36m 4s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was ok for me. I got right on the front and tried to draft some of the faster swimmer. The first guy I tried to draft was way to fast (he swam a 26). Man first sight he was 10 yards ahead second sight he was 30 yards ahead third sight and he was gone. So I as we got closer to the first turn bouye I found a guy to draft off of and stayed there pretty much the rest of the swim. So pretty uneventfull. The last 2-300 yards I passed him and he drafted me the rest of the swim. I think I got the better end of the deal.
What would you do differently?:

There where a few guy that slowly swam by that I should of fell in behind but I just stayed put. I don't know how much differance it would have made. They finished maybe a minute ahead of me and the guy I drafted most of the race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Bike
  • 2h 53m 48s
  • 56.3 miles
  • 19.43 mile/hr
Comments:

I have done this race before (Last year I was 2:58 on the bike this year 2:53) so I knew what to expect as far as the hills. The first half or so is mostly flat. This year I decided to go out a little harder on this part and that is where the time differance is. The only real trouble was in Troup we had to wait for a train. I am not sure how long maybe 2-3 min. It did not bother me much but some guys where really not happy. It rained on me about 3 time nothing real big but I don't like wet roads so I was real nervous about all the turns. Like most of my races I let off a little bit with about 5 miles to go start stretching a little bit and getting my heart rate down for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Run
  • 1h 54m 8s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I took off out of T2 and felt good. Legs where a little heavy but they have been feeling that way for a few weeks ( not sure whats going on there maybe just mental). They had wet towels at most of the aid stations that made it nice. I carry my nutrition so all I took was water. I knew I was hydrated because at about mile 4 I had to make a pit stop (also had to stop twice on the bike). At half way I still felt good so I started picking people in front of me to catch (to help push me to the end). I caught two and almost the third. At the last aid station I was about 25 yards bihind guy number three. He picked it up from there to the finish and so I finished about 25 yards behind him.( thank you guy number three for the push to the end).
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and stretched out while I waited on my buddy to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training.

Event comments:

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

I am not tough. I cried during the Lion King stampede, during Armageddon when Liv Tyler collapsed on the TV as her dad wished her farewell and, most embarrassingly, E.T.
