Pre-race routine:

Set up and checked transition about 10 times. Had eaten early like 4:30 am so had a little snack 1.5 hours before race. Took a gel 30 minutes before swim start.
Event warmup:

Was very cold, no warm up. Had run around a bit but because of a swim time issue I started 76. It was very chilly standing on the pool deck in my swim trunks.
Swim
  • 08m 54s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

Timer said start was based off of entered swim time. I entered 7:15 and started with people at a 10:00-10:30 pace. Got hung up in traffic.
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s

Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Got going pretty quick. Transition was long and I was in front as to run the least amount of distance in bike shoes. Ran straight out, turned sharp corner, and out onto run course.
Run
  • 25m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 12s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Push harder.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

2nd tri. In my first it was 1 day after 1/2 marathon and run course wasnt marked so I got lost. No real baseline for sprint 5K pace. In hinds sight I didnt push hard enough on the run.

Event comments:

Already marked my calendar for next year!

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
