Sunny
Total Time = 2h 12m 25s
Overall Rank = 107/370
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 18/39
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30am ate a blueberry muffin and some pre energy gatorade. Also had some granola.
Event warmup:

Did alot of walking around and quick 150 yard swim in intercoastal next to dock
Swim
  • 04m 52s
  • 250 meters
  • 01m 57s / 100 meters
Comments:

Finished with about an average time in the swim compared to others. Was disappointed that the swim was not the full length but safety comes first.
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Very congested transition area because nearly 400 swimmers coming in within minutes of eachother. Had a decent time anyway.
Bike
  • 1h 05m 47s
  • 25 miles
  • 23.05 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike course was very crowded because of what happened at the swim. There was no way not to draft in the race. Kept a decent 25-26 mph pace heading out with about 7 others and back in between 19-22 mph. Drank about 20oz of water and cytomax during ride. Could have probably finished a minute or two faster but was difficult to pass slower rides at times.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Flying dismount worked to perfection! Only issue I had was being taller it was next to impossible to rack my bike. Found it off the rack both in T1 and when i finished the race. Need taller racks!
Run
  • 59m 15s
  • 6.55 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Because of the delays with the swim, by the time I started running it was getting hot. Race was promoted at 6.2 miles but actually was 6.55 miles. Very nice course with plenty of aid stations and volunteers. Lots of gatorade, water and cool sponges available.

Was hoping for more of a 54-55 min run portion but it was getting really hot at this point. Great run course with no traffic.
What would you do differently?:

Increase my mile pace by about 15 seconds.
Post race
Warm down:

light stretching, walking around downtown

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat on run

Event comments:

Great venue. Nice to see downtown packed with athletes Friday and Saturday. Everything was well within walking distance. Great for spectators. Lots of restaurants to choose from in the area. Bike and run course were great. I think others would agree only negative was the swim but nothing can be done with mother nature gets in the way. Considering the circumstances it was a great time. The race director made a good decision shortening the swim for the oly. athletes. Feel bad for those that were carried away for the HIM.

Age Group: 0/39
Overall: 0/370
Performance: Average
Suit: None
Course: After the HIM wave went off noticed that nobody was really going anywhere. It was DANGEROUS currents and not one person actually made it to the first buoy about 800 meters out. Most of the swimmers in the HIM waves basically swam in place and ended up floating to different areas of the intercoastal. Thankfully the RD changed the Oly course to be a short 250 meter dock to dock swim. It was crowded and alot of hitting/kicking taking place but it was quick. Better safe than sorry. Never seen anything like those currents.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
