Hello,

I am looking for a little advice on how far I should push it over the next few weeks leading up to the Muncie 70.3 on July 13th. I'm a little worried maybe I haven't put in quite enough time on the bike or run. My last couple weeks have had one long ride (50-55 miles) and two moderate rides (one 25 miler at a high intensity, and another 35-40 miler at race pace or above). My running has been about 25 miles a week (one long run 13-14 miles, one medium run about 8 miles, and anywhere between 1-2 short speed runs 3-4 miles at the highest pace I can run and still throw in strides). My swimming is pretty consistent, one 2500 meter swim, two shorter days with a lot of speed work mixed in. Do I sound like I'm on a good track 4 weeks out? It is probably a little late to change it, but does it sound like I should be alright to complete it? I'm not looking to set the world on fire, would love to finish around 6 hours. My nutrition seems to be there, my legs are a little sore getting off the bike after a pretty good 50+ mile ride, but seems to get better each time. Lastly, when should I start to shut it down and taper? I don't want to lose any fitness, but also don't want to be zapped coming into the race. Do I sound like I'm on a good track? Thanks for the long read, I look forward to hearing from those more experienced than I in the subject (pretty much everyone).

I tapered for about 3 weeks going into my first HIM. After that point you're better off resting your body than trying to gain any fitness. Use this last week to get in one last long ride and run, maybe even a long bike/short run brick if your need it and dial in your nutritionand any other race related loose ends you want to tie up before your taper.

Your training sounds almost identical to my 70.3 training and I had similar goals to you. I think you should be good to go as far as training goes. I started my taper around 2 weeks out.

Your training sounds ok.

I think you can easily get in 2 more good intensity long rides, and 2 long runs before taper.
Get in as much swimming as you can..that can't hurt.

Personally I think 1 week taper for a HIM is plenty, but do what you feel is right.

Other than that, just stay conservative on the rest and focus on the race execution...

You'll do fine!!

Started tapeer 2 weeks out. Did tow r-b-r bricks which I felt helped. Both were R5 - B50 - R5 followed by two very easy days. They allowed me to tweek my nutrition and were easy to recover from.
