Subject: Firecrest 404 vs. 808
I have a pair of 404 Firecrest Clincher and I love them.
Several people mentioned me that I could be faster with the 808. I researched and I am not sure about that.
I want to ask you if you agree or not.
Let's say that on a flat course I ride in 60mins a 40km oly distance and in 2h20-2h25 on HIM 90km.
Can I get sensitive benefits from the 808 to justify the upgrade cost? what about tubular version?

The 808's will be faster, but only you can justify the upgrade cost. For some people a $100 is a lot of money, for others, $1000 is a lot of money... Savings will vary greatly depending on terrain, how technical the course is, wind conditions, and the skills of the rider

Tubulars offers very little benefits anymore... it used to be that a tubular had much lower rolling resistance, they handled significantly better and the general road feel was just superior. The two areas where tubulars are slightly (but this is slightly now mind you) better is road feel and puncture safety; if you flat with a tubular you can still roll to a safe stop, with a clincher, you will need to come to a stop immediately.

Clinchers have really caught up to such a degree that the small benefits of tubulars no longer outweighs the work that's involved with them.

I have Bontrager Race Lite wheels. I was looking into renting Zipp 303's or 404's for race day for Ironman Lake Placid. What time will I save?

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.
