Pre-race routine:

The day before I drove up to Chattanooga from Atlanta. Met up with some friends for dinner at a local restaurant where I had some pasta and plenty of water and...maybe a beer.

I couldn't sleep during the night so I was up watching Goodfellas on TNT. Great movie if you've never seen it. Eventually got to bed at midnight but woke up at 3:30a to get ready. I made sure that I had everything ready to go the night before in case I overslept.

I drove down to the race start and noticed that no one was there, so I was able to get a prime parking spot next to transition. I unloaded my gear and went over to get body marked and set up my area. The lady doing the body marking was needed a cheet sheat to make sure she was doing it right. When she was marking my legs I think she pulled my shorts up a little to high for all to see.

Once I got marked I picked up my chip which I eventually lost, but luckily found in transition. I set up my area and constantly checked over and over again to make sure that it was set up correctly.

Before I knew it, it was time to load onto the bus.
Swim
  • 27m 18s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

The first couple of hundred meters went great, but eventually I went off course and was told to get back in line. Than I went off course again and almost ran into one of the yahts on the river. One point water went down the wrong tube and I had a small panic attack, but I recovered and made it to the dock.

That was my fastest swim ever and no one has to know it was with the current...so shhhhh!
What would you do differently?:

My swimming still needs work so I'll train a bit harder for that.
Transition 1
  • 03m 32s
Comments:

As soon as I got out of the water I felt very sick and I was having doubts whether I could do the bike. I drank some fluids and ate bit of a cliff bar in transition to see if it would calm my stomach.
Bike
  • 1h 27m 39s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 16.98 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike part was a good ride. I'm not the best cyclist in the world, but I felt more comfortable out on the hills. Overall I was pleased with myself and I'm only hoping to ride lots so I can improve.
Transition 2
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

The transition went well, and I'm hoping to improve my time down the road.
Run
  • 1h 06m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was by far my weakest today. Normally I'm able to catch up on the run, but I wasn't feeling the best in the heat, so I slowed down considerably.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a cool rag that was handed over to me at the finish and got the last 2 beers from the tent. Sorry everyone, that was me that kicked the keg!

Event comments:

This was a great race and I'll do this again.

Nice race!  That would be so cool swimming with the current.  I need to find a tri like that.  LOL!  Thanks for sharing your race with us.  Good job!
