For those of you who aren't on Houstonracing.com or haven't otherwise heard, it might be worth registering just to get a look-see at this thread: http://www.houstonracing.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2167

But I'll go ahead and quote the first post for y'all:

GREAT NEWS. The Galveston tri weekend ( March 31- April 1 2007) has a new race director and will be back at Moody Gardens next year.
The new RD(s) are Keith & Claire Jordan. They currently live in New Hampshire and put on the Mooseman and Timberman half Ironmans. They come highly recommended as having been named USAT race director of the year in 2001 and also Best RD in New Hampshire. They are in the process of moving to Austin and will soon be more local to the Houston area. I look forward to the 2007 race. Stay tuned for the official website.

Keith then jumps on the thread and answers questions.

Folks... it looks like we have a winner. Sign me up for the Olympic distance on Saturday.

Yes, it is true! I've known about it for a while and it should be HUGE and we need local support. Its a great venue for a race, Moody Gardens is gorgeous. It will not be like the awful race you did the first year Celeste.

I'll be involved, probably not racing, but working it. I'm so excited.

Celeste: Thanks for posting this information.  I just read the hrtc thread and the whole thing sounds fabulous.  Compared to my first tri event in Galveston, this sounds like the Olympics.  This will definately be my first race for the '07 season.  I may even do the Oly!  Of course it will depend on how my off season training goes.

This is great news.

Sweet. I think I may have found my 2nd HIM race!

Not knowing much about the area, would Sugar Land (my brother's house) to Galveston be a doable drive on race morning? Be a nice excuse to go visit him.

They will likely move back to New Hampshire when they find out how hot it is in Texas.

You can drive from Sugarland. What does mapquest say - about 45 minutes? An hour? Whatever it says, remember there won't be any traffic at 4:30am on a Sunday.

Oh boy this one's going to be good!

Based on what everyone has said (I'm going to read to full thread when I'm done) I'm very excited about the race! My experience there (My First Tri) 2 yrs ago was ok, but the event seemed so un-organized... late start, poor race setup etc. So I hope it is as good as it is made out to be!!

If this race has a relay division, I'd be willing to do the swim for the 1/2 IM if anyone is interested. It's close to IMAZ, so I won't be doing the whole race.

Sugar Land is probably a little less than an hour away from Galveston, but it should be an easy drive that early in the morning and may take less time with the light traffic. I would still plan on an hour just in case.

I am excited to hear that there are new race directors for this race! I have never competed in it because of all the horror stories that came back a couple years ago, but with it so close (I live in Houston) I have always wanted to. Maybe I'll add it to my race list for 2007! I am so glad to see the number of race opportunities and the race quality increasing around Houston- it is all very exciting!

Yes you've heard bad things, but that was the fault of the other race directors. This is going to be totally different. I will post a link to the website when it comes online if the RD doesn't do it himself. I'm sure more will come after Timberman.

Yes the race totally sucked this year and it was my first tri which didn't help...BUT Haley has given me some hope for next year.  If it is well organized...I'll definitely do it next year!  Jeanette will have to join in too.  It was her first tri too this year.  I'm kind of excited about it now and looking forward to it.

Man, I think I am totally in for this race. It will be my first HIM (I was supposed to do Iron Star but I got too lazy). I'm seriously excited about this race though. I'll be going back home to Houston and dragging my sister into it with me!

The race director is calling it the LoneStar Triathlon Festival, and plans to have HIM, Olympic, and sprint distances. Here's the website, though he doessn't have the Olympic data in there. Registration opens November 1.

Hey All!
I'm the RD, and we're VERY excited about the event....
The Oly info is up...
Feel free to fire away with any questions you have.

Keep in mind, the ONLY similarity between this race and the past events is that they're both in Galveston.

The location is even different. We're in FANTASTIC Moody Gardens, not the State Park....

NO OTHER SIMILARITIES...This is going to be a world-class event FOR the athlete...

Safe, FUN, a whole weekend festival.

Again, fire away with questions....

WE are SO glad that a reputable RD has taken over.  There is much excitement about it.  I read some of your posts on HRTC (which I am also a member of)...welcome to BT and I look forward in participating in the race next year.

Thanks!
The biggest obstacle is making people understand we have nothing to do with the past.
Believe me, we're planning on making this a FANTASTIC weekend...
For those who have come to Timberman and Mooseman, they know

We get one chance to make that first impression. We fully intend to blow this out of the water
