Pre-race routine:

Got up[ at 4:30 AM, drove up to the race...
Event warmup:

None, conserved all energy for the events

  • 02m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

What a fun event! The weather could not have been more perfect. The water temp was nice for a regular swim suit, although a surprising number of folks went with a wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Train more, work on sighting, train more, swim more than 10000 yards in the month leading up to the race, add some yardage, and train. It was a nice swim, and my pace was actually pretty much my typical pace...I need to find a "race pace" in the water.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a banana, packet of GU, lots of water...had another race in 15 minutes!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience in open water, lack of training.

Event comments:

The transition area needs to be bigger. The lifeguards and volunteers were awesome! The fellow competitors were very friendly folks! This is a unique race at a great location in a beautiful little town. looking forward to next year

Confessions of an open water chicken. I'm OK when the water is clear and the creatures are visible; it's just when I can't see them that the panic sets in.

Stroke after stroke, my pace was pulling me out into the middle of the lake quickly. The cover seemed to be getting thicker. But still in the distance, the little boathouse was my lighthouse.
