Overcast
Total Time = 2h 48m 44s
Overall Rank = 73/112
Age Group = 60-64
Age Group Rank = 2/4
Event warmup:

Short jog, dynamic stretching.
Swim
  • 33m 20s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

I did a poor job navigating. My wave wore yellow caps and the turn buoy was yellow. The lifeguard also had a yellow shirt so it was difficult spotting the buoy. Thought I had a good line but found myself way to the right and had to swim a ways to the left for the turn, probably at least 100 yards. The rest of the swim was okay.
Transition 1
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Smooth transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 9s
  • 24.2 miles
  • 19.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Started off slow while trying to reset my Garmin. My legs felt sore and tight for the first 5 miles and then everything clicked. Slight wind on the return trip and I felt great.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out why my legs feel so sore at the start of the ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Run
  • 59m 40s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

This was my best Oly run in years. My estimate was 10-10:30 per mile and I averaged 9:37. The last mile was tough.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, eat pizza and drink water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More longer runs in training.

Event comments:

DRC puts on a good event.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).
