Comments:

Went out fast for first couple of KM thought that I might have gone to hard and blow up later on the race. But just kept on pace kept HR in the 170 range which seems to be close to threshold for me. 175 seems to make me fairly winded.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I might have been bale to kick a bit more for the last KM but overall very happy. Knocked 10:31 off last years race so pumped about performance.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around drank water, some oranges. waited for friends and wife to cross finish line.

Event comments:

Great post race awards ceremony held at the local Legion. Sandwiches, fruit, drinks. Won a pair of Salmon trail running shoes for top local male.

Thanks. I peaked on that run. Had a look at the results and actually placed 4 th missed 3rd by 2:37 which is might have been doable but I might have cracked at that pace so ill aim for that next year.

I read somewhere about "bar ends" to put on your handle bars, do you recommend them? Is this similar to adding clip on aero bars?

During this past weekend's Olympic distance triathlon, lack of fuel and dehydration hurt me during the run. I feel a little lost with knowing what, when and how much to consume.

The XTERRA off-road triathlons consist of a lake swim, a mountain bike trail ride, and a trail run. I decided to try the AZ Xtreme Desert XTERRA Tri as my 1st off-road triathlon, and my 3rd tri ever.

Well I said that I was not going to do it this season, but I cracked. I broke down and bought a new bike. I went out and bought a shiny new Cannondale road bike.

So after about 10,000 emails, dozens of phone calls, and one pre-race pasta dinner, the 1st meeting of the Steve's in a triathlon finally arrived.
