Total Time = 2h 33m 59s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Women Open
Age Group Rank = 3/60
Pre-race routine:

at oatmeal, drank some water
cycled to the race ~ 5km.
Set up transition, drank gu brew
went for body marking
watched the previous swim waves
ate caffeinated gel, finished my 750ml water
Event warmup:

~5km easy cycle to the race
swam a little ~100m steady
Swim
  • 35m 12s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 21s / 100 meters
Comments:

drafted well once I had found someone during the second lap!
What would you do differently?:

nothing - i put in a lot of effort, and it felt pretty good.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

still need to learn how to jump on bike.
What would you do differently?:

practice jumping on bike
check out the swim in, so i can find my bike more easily
Bike
  • 1h 08m 53s
  • 40 kms
  • 35.23 km/hr
Comments:

water stand was worse than nothing. plastic cups on a table, nobody handing them off.
Nobody could get water, but people crashing nearby whenever they attempted it.
What would you do differently?:

check the EXACT details of the water stands on the cycle course, and if it is like today, carry extra water on the bike
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

leave a water bottle in transition in case i don't get enough on the bike
Run
  • 49m 54s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 59s  min/km
Comments:

found the run hard, i think because i was dehydrated from the bike... or could have just "thought" i was dehydrated from the bike so found it hard mentally.
Over took one girl in the first 1km, then saw no other girls on the course at all...
What would you do differently?:

leave a water bottle in transition in case i don't get enough on the bike
Post race
Warm down:

walked around with Leo and the kids, cycled home ~5km.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough water on the bike?

Event comments:

Really lacking on the drinks stands - bike was the worst. Small plastic cups on a low table and nobody handing off. Caused a pretty serious crash.
On the run, they were trying, but the drinks stands were too small and understaffed. Often there ws nothing available as we ran past, or there were jams.
The were no sponge stations, no showers and i saw one jug being tipped over a head, but I think it was meant for drinking.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Keep in mind that the taper period is as important to your body as all of the long hours you’ve put in the pool, on the bike and on the road. It is meant to help you rest, recover and rejuvenate.
