Pre-race routine:

Picked up DK at about 4 AM and headed down. We were the first to get our race packets. We set up transition, and I actually went out for a quick ride. This was partly due to stiffness from workouts earlier in the week, but also because I had not really checked out the bike since I last rode it back in about May.

  • 880 yards

Absolutely killed this sucker. Got on quick feet early and stayed on them.

Nice efficient T1
Bike
  • 51m 25s
  • 14.2 miles
  • 16.43 mile/hr
Comments:

was not planning on going this hard on the bike as I had to race Sunday too. Things just went well and I went with it. Only issue on the course was 3 rail crossings that left a lot to be desired.
What would you do differently?:

Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Very happy with this transition.
Run
  • 33m 11s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Got out and found a rythem. Just stuck with it and went for it. Just after mile 1, I caught a young lady running her first tri. She kept stopping to stretch etc. We had the same pace, so I told her to keep up and not walk. We finished strong together. Once we made it to the grassy area, she showed her youth and dusted me.

Warm down:

Finished very proud of myself. Not my fastest effort, but definitely one of the best executed races ever for me. The effort was pretty much full tilt, and the mental planning was spot on. Had nothing more to give, and if I had, it would have effected Sunday.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Event comments:

Race start was delayed as packet pickup was finished on time. Pushed back about 30 min. I think this might be a part of why they "started" the race 30 min earlier than in years past. Too many people come to the race 30 minutes prior to start and expect no line.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
