Has anyone here had a laproscopic inguinal hernia repair? I have a minor one that I'm getting repaired with mesh after the season is over. If you've had this procedure (one side), what did your recovery look like? How long until you were able to walk, swim, bike, run?

I've had one done on each side with a 2-3 inch incision instead of laproscopically.  In discussing recovery with my doc he said the hernia itself is stronger than ever right after surgery and it's the incision that causes the discomfort and is a barrier to rapid return to training.  My guess (and it's just a guess) is that with a much smaller incision you should be able to return to training much quicker.

For me it was a day of not doing anything, feeling great the next day, doing too much, in agony again for a day, and then 4-5 days of taking it easy before gradualing working into some light exercise and just playing it by ear.

It is hard to have to take time out of a training program to recover from surgery. The good news is that most of the time patients with this type of surgery are back to full activity in two weeks.

Swimming and cycling are well tolerated sports. Running should be limited based upon an athlete’s pain and functional limitations.

What we see is that people want to look good – in a bad way. Our society paints a picture of beauty. But nobody wants to really go back to basics of diet and exercise as the fountain of youth.
