Pre-race routine:

Woke up. Picked up Rachel. Had a bagel with PB. Set up transition. Had a bagel with honey. Walked over to swim start with Clay and Gaby. Ate come clif bloks and headed down to swim start.
Event warmup:

Had an hour and 15min before the start of my wave, so couldn't do much.
  • 23m 35s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 07s / 100 yards

Slid off the dock and into the water. Started swimming and was getting knocked around. Tried to get out ahead of everyone. Never saw any of the buoys, but felt good. Finally saw the last red buoy that lead to the exit.
What would you do differently?:

Transition 1
  • 03m 38s

Long run, but they had wetsuit strippers. Had to pee in transition and did so right in front of my bike.

Felt pretty good. Right hip/butt was hurting but the hills helped me get out of the saddle and stretch a little bit.
What would you do differently?:

Transition 2
  • 04m 32s

Some jackass stopped right in front of me at the dismount line. I was on the far left and hoping he would keep going, but dumbasses will be dumasses. Had to pee again so stopped in the PP.

Started out feeling good. Knew I was running to fast to hold, but figured I'd see how long I could hold it. At mile 8.5 started to get some stomach cramps. Started doing walking breaks through aid get in some hydration/nutrition. Started feeling better in the last mile or so, but still did the walking breaks.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and walked around

Some mistakes I made during the Hawaii Ironman 70.3. Don't be caught out on the course not knowing how or not having the equipment to change a flat tire.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.

A bad race left me smoldering, but time and a gentle breeze ignited my passion to race again.
