Subject: Foam rollers for training recovery

Hi all!

I am just new at triathlons and I start feeling the need to add something to help recover my training sessions.

I have heard about the foam rollers as pretty good tools to self massage the muscles in the legs.

Does anyone use them? are really helpful and does it really works?

Cheers!

I was skeptical at first, but someone suggested them to help me with my nagging hamstring problems. They actually work. I have both the smooth foam roller, and the bumpy/knobby, harder roller. Next best thing to an actual massage.

I use a hardware store PVC pipe for rolling. The foam one just doesn't build enough pressure on the trigger points on most of my parts.

I love my foam roller.  It is definitely like giving yourself a little massage.

If I need something harder or more concentrated in one small area, I use a tennis ball and roll on a hard surface rather than carpet.

Love/Hate relationship with my foam rollers (yes, multiple… we have one in the bedroom, one in the living room, a small travel sized one and two in the home gym). Love what the do for me, but hate the feeling while on them. They can truly hurt, but wow are they effective!
