So signed up for the 2-twenty-2 Duathlon in Greenville, SC and then just noticed it is offering $500 in prize purse! I know this is not much, but usually the most I get is a tech tee and a free drink at the end.

Anyone plan on doing this here? Feb. 15, coming up soon.

I did this last year and froze my butt off. I considered it this year but it doesn't fit into my schedule very well. Last year the lead group of cyclist were pointed off course by a police officer. They regrouped and completed the bike portion as a pace line. It lead to a few very unhappy participants. Hopefully the course will be better marked this year.

i wanted to do this last year but i was stuck in warm and sunny wichita..../sarcasm.   i did see the DQ's from some names i thought should have dominated the race and wondered what was up with that though.

considering it. im doing the spring series this year so there is a race at the same time i could/should already be doing.  if the weather is nice i'll probably end up doing it though.

Yea, some were DQ'ed and didn't do the second run, some finished the race. Kinda a big cluster during the race and toward the end. Athletes yelling "Cheaters" and not knowing who was leading. If the same thing happens this year with a $500 purse, it won't be pretty. The course is hilly enough to be a challenge. The run is relatively flat except for a hill that goes from the park up to the road that you had to go up 4 times if I remember correctly. With your power on the bike, I wouldn't be surprised if you are the overall winner. Might even win enough cash to cover your races this season

There was a lot of issues last year with the bike course. There were several group of riders that did not stay on course for one reason or another. Some went longer, some went shorter.

They just changed the bike course to reverse the direction to make things more clear and safe.

With some prize money, I am sure there will be some speed that shows up and make me look slow. All good, just trying to get others to support some of these early season duathlon races in SC.

Hope to see y'all there

I am holding out on registering based solely on the forecast. If the weather looks to be nice, I will do it. No chance of me having an overall win but maybe AG.

If you go, stop by transition to say hi. I will do the same. Hope the temps are warmer than last year!

I registered for the Spring Series race that day... if I CAT up between now and then I may be able to do both though since the CAT4 races are typically the last ones of the day and in the afternoon

There is no chance I would do another race later in the day. That second run is a thigh burner for me. I will probably still have ice packs on by noon

well i can tuck into the pack for all but that last few kilometers if need be.  my run fitness isn't there right now though, so i may not even consider the Du at all.  im averaging 15 miles a week at best at ~8min/mile pace.

Training pace doesn't matter. Race pace does.

I signed up when the forecast said 62 high low 42 with 10% chance of rain. Looks like it will be colder but at least I won't be wet.

aaaand it's cancelled.  I don't really see the reason why. snow should be melted by this weekend, at least on the roads.

Im a little bothered that I can't apply the registration to a different race later this year. It sux to have a race automatically placed on your schedule that you may not be able to attend

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

My first duathlon was a success. I had so many fears before the race but none of those fears happened. And when it was all over, I felt I had accomplished something big.

This program should be used for an athlete who is new to duathlon and their goal is to complete a sprint duathlon without difficulty. The schedule consists of 3 workouts per week in each sport.
