Tampa, Florida

Gasparilla Distance Classic Association
70F / 21C
Overcast
Total Time = 26m 39s
Overall Rank = 1030/
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 95/544
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 6:15 and drove 1 hour and 15 minutes to Tampa! Ran to get my number and drop off my backpack and then it was off
Event warmup:

Stretched a little. Hit the porta-potty.
Run
  • 26m 39s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 20s  min/km
Comments:

Crowded race. They had two divisions. One for runners, the other for walkers and strollers. Apparently a lot of people thought that run/walking was in the first category. So there was a lot clusterf**k. It was annoying, my GPS looks like I was running from gunfire!!
What would you do differently?:

Get to race early and campout at the front
Post race
Warm down:

Drink water (missed the beer!), go through Expo (I liked it) and then walk through downpour to my car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My buddha belly.

Event comments:

This was a good race. Tons of interesting people, good pace booty (sorry!!), a good race shirt but please make sure walkers are in the back of the pack. As I age I will curse this decision but for now it would be a good idea!!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
