City puts Challenge Penticton up for sale

Tri in BC isn't dying--it's thriving! The problem is there may not be enough room for two iron-distance races so close together in BC. We already know the market is getting saturated in other parts of North America. After just one year, IMC in Whistler is now known as one of the most scenic and challenging races in North America. Having the two races on the same day last year didn't help, although I guess they are still not selling enough entries in Penticton for this year.

I really hope Penticton works something out.

And we have a potential buyer.

This news makes me want to cry. I LOVE racing in Penticton. I thought Challenge did a great job last year, and tough when they had to compete with Whislter being on the same day. I think losses of $$ in the first year had to be expected. And I wish that I could race it again this year, but family commitments dictate otherwise. I really hope that this race, under whatever banner, can continue!
