Pre-race routine:

Get up at 4:00 and watch Married with Children. Eat, go to the bathroom and wake up the kids.
Event warmup:

Jogging about 45 minutes before race, and maybe 50m swim in pool. Fast enough to get the jitters out.
Swim
  • 06m 8s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

Since people had to seed themselves upon registration, there are lots of liars out there! I had to pass quite a few people which is difficult in a pool swim. I swam very well! I'm usually not thrilled about my swim, but this time was good.
What would you do differently?:

Seed myself better
Transition 1
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

Since it was so cold and windy, I put on an Under Armour cold gear shirt, so that took a little extra time. But it was sooo worth it!
Bike
  • 44m 7s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.32 mile/hr
Comments:

So windy on 2 stretches of the bike loop. And to make it worse, we had the main head wind on the hilliest part of the course. I was going 10mph towards the top of some hills.
Also, my stomach started to hurt with probably 2 miles left. I think this was because of my breakfast. No more waffles and smoothie.
What would you do differently?:

Eat different breakfast.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

My T2 seems to have been a lot faster than others. Not sure why.
Run
  • 26m 4s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I really sucked at this one. My stomach was hurting, but they weren't cramps. It was from my breakfast I think. I just couldn't go any faster.
What would you do differently?:

Eat different breakfast.

The triathletes really inspired me. I watched them in awe as childlike thoughts went through my head like, "I want to do that!" But then reality set in. “Who are you kidding?
