Pre-race routine:

Arrived at my leg around 7:45 PM and checked in with with the officials. After checking in I waited about an hour before I started stretching and warming up for my leg.
Event warmup:

I had not run this race since 2005 so I did not remember too much about the course or logistics. This is a 20 leg relay race from the City of Baker to Las Vegas. The 20 legs vary in distance from 4 miles to 10.7 miles. I checked out my leg and ran a couple laps around the leg 8 exchange point. During my warm up laps I found out I was not getting any service to my cell phone and I was not able to use my running app on my phone to track my progress. I always use my cell phone to track my progress and was unfortunately planning on relying on the app for my mile splits.

Comments:

Based on the last couple miles of this run being a pretty good incline I decided to take it a bit too easy the first couple of miles. I wished I would have pushed it harder the first two to three miles and felt I could have run between 7:30 and 7:40 if I had. I was happy with my run overall and can't wait to run the same leg next year now that I know what to expect. My goal next year is to run 7:30's or under. The last 2 miles were definitely not as bad as I thought they were going to be.
What would you do differently?:

Not rely on my cell phone for pacing because I had no idea how fast I was running until I finished. The course is not marked with mile markers so I had no idea what my splits were during the run. I was running strictly off of feel
