Age Group Rank = 8/9
Swim
  • 04m 49s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Time adjustment per my watch to account for the run out of the pool area and into the transition zone.

Cramped off the wall in my foot for the last 50 yards (typical).
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Was slow and knew it was slow as I was doing it. Couldn't get my belt to buckle; couldn't get my shoes on right. Pretty poor T1 really.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep practicing.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 34s
  • 20 miles
  • 17.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Didn't notice the tailwind on the way out, but definitely noticed the headwind on the way back home. Pretty good ride really - 0.6mph faster than last year and didn't feel nearly as bad at the end of it. Just keep up with the seat time and things will improve.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing for my current conditioning.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Pretty good T2, really. Got my shoes unbuckled on the way in through the parking lot and was able to hop off and get racked up pretty quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Forgot to put my helmet on my bars before racking, could have saved a few ticks there. Had to tie shoes since mine don't fit Yankz (the holes are too small), but other than that I can't see much time coming off of this transition.
Run
  • 35m 12s
  • 4 miles
  • 08m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty good run, really. First mile was faster than I'd wanted (8:18), but slowed the pace a bit and was able to hold that for the middle miles. Tried to push the last mile a bit and was able to finish strong.
What would you do differently?:

Possibly could have tried to hold my initial mile's pace, but there were hints of high-hammy cramping that I didn't want to take a chance with.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, water and snacks

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Current fitness level - but performance was good given my training to date.

Event comments:

Just one comment on the "organized - No" rating. This was not specific to my race, although the swim start could be better organized. The knock on this race on this date for me was for the kid's race that was held afterwards. There was a miscommunication between the RD and the volunteer lead which resulted in the volunteers being pulled from the course early. This resulted in THE LOSS OF ~10 KIDS ON THE BIKE COURSE (!!!!) since they no longer knew where to turn around at. The RD did a good job of notifying the campus police and beginning to search himself (by bike), but back in the transition area there was not the best amount of coordination. Parents were out looking on their own (I found 5 kids on the wrong side of campus and got them back via a truck that was driving around looking), but this was a very serious error on their part.

My right knee has a pain in the front, just below the kneecap. I walked 24 miles of IM Louisville. No pain while walking but it started immediately when trying to run.

So here I was, a hard-working, respectable, just-turned-forty-six-year-old, who never considered herself athletic, lining up in my swim cap and goggles for my first triathlon.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.

What to wear under the wetsuit? What to wear for the bike and the run? Good thing someone invented the wonderful trisuit, to which we’ve become accustomed. It’s supposed to make our lives so simple.

Enter the new TYR X-Sight goggles. The X-Sights have been designed with a flexible nose bridge that (surprise, surprise) is shaped like an “X”.

Can anyone think of a better way to spend Labour Day weekend than doing your first tri? Ok, maybe doing your 2nd, 3rd...50th tri...but you get my point. :)
