I can honestly say that I can't imagine running from a goose. I mean, what is he going to do once he catches you? Stand your ground!

The big ones bite.

A moose bit my sister once.

Geese are definitely protective of their turf, their babies, and their ladies during the spring. They come at me a lot on the local golf course. I've figured out that if you just keep moving while looking directly at them, they back down. Spreading your arms helps this. Having a club in your hand helps even more. :-)

Once, about 30 years ago, a friend of mine was hitting a tee shot when a goose landed right in front of him about 25 yards out. The ball solidly hit the goose in the neck, just below the head. That goose was DRT.

I get chased by geese this time of year every run, as I go through a park with lots of them. I look at it as the sprint portion of my run. And I'm sure anyone watching is laughing as hard as I am. I hunt geese in the fall, so I figure its payback.

They will nip at you, but its not that big of a deal, just keep running.

Those things are nasty, but I "cheat" if they don't seem to be wanting to share the path I give my four legged running partner some slack on the leash-then they move really fast.

I'm doing a 5k on 5/18 called the Wild Goose Chase that's through a state park.  This is all making me hope that it's going to be racers chasing geese and not the other way around.

Gators............I highly avoid them and being chased by them but I have encountered them on golf course, bike trails and running trails here in FL. I go the other way when they are in the middle of the road !!!

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
