Easy spin on the bike to the venue, then ran a warm up mile a few minutes before the start.
Run
  • 12m 50s
  • 2 miles
  • 06m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off a bit fast, but was able to settle and hold a pretty strong pace
What would you do differently?:

Not go out so hot (6:18 for the first mile)
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Pretty solid transition, had a little trouble clipping my helmet with the gloves on, otherwise no issues
Bike
  • 26m 8s
  • 10 miles
  • 22.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Knowing the roads well definitely helped me get into an aggressive mindset and I put down a hard pace and held it throughout the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Smooth T2
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 13m 42s
  • 2 miles
  • 06m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Definitely had a harder time with this run, but based on my place no more so than others. Managed to keep the pressure on and hold off a guy about 15-20 seconds behind me most of the time.
What would you do differently?:

My fast start probably caught up to me a bit here, but nothing too bad.
Post race
Warm down:

Cheered on others, stretched a bit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not too worried about this, just felt good to get out and race for the first time this season.

Event comments:

Very fun local race, well organized by ARE. Will likely do this one again in the future.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

My first duathlon was a success. I had so many fears before the race but none of those fears happened. And when it was all over, I felt I had accomplished something big.

"I was wondering if this is a sensible approach? Should I get "better" on short distance and then move to something longer or do what I want if I feel I can do it whatever the time?"
