Did you race this last year - first year for it? I am considering it for this year. Would love to have more information on it!

Thanks for sharing! Looks interesting, hadn't heard of it before.

Not ready for a Full, but maybe next year! For $400 its not a bad price for a full distance race!

Some people had a bad experience last year.

Take a look at this thread: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/cgi-bin/gforum.cgi?post=5267553;search_...

I heard from a participant that the bike course was bad; it took the riders on roads that had big trucks rolling on it. The leader apparently got lost; the motorcycle course abandoned him. If you look at the first year's results, it seems a contingent from southern california gave up after the bike portion. Participants were angry with the organizer who was insensitive and criticized participants. The organizer deleted all the discussion on the capitolaman Facebook page; that's why you see very few comments.

On the other hand, some participants seemed ok with the race like this local athlete:

Given the number of participants, I'm surprised it looks like the organizer is still going through with the second iteration, so I have to give him credit for that.

This year's bike course seems to be revamped. No idea how the roads look there.

Expect the turnout to be very small again. This is not an Ironman experience with masses of people.

ironman 70.3 santa cruz, formerly Big Kahuna, is the same weekend (on Sunday) this year.

I was planning to register for this race and noticed it is postponed until Sept 2016. My guess is they didn't get enough people to register this year to make it worth while. I am disappointed as it looked like a pretty course and would have been a fun day.

On a facebook group the organizer said that he had heart issues, so he was postponing. I presume nobody lies about something like that.

Are you only considering full IM distance events at this time?

I was looking for another full iron to do this year for my 12th. I was hoping to find an independent race within driving distance to save on money. I raced IM Whistler a few weeks ago for #11. I am now looking at the HITS races and might do the full in Lake Havasu, AZ the first week of November.

I was considering it for next year when I hope to do my first IM distance. Then I looked at the bike route. It crisscrosses all over the place. I can see how people would get lost and confused. And BTW, I live relatively close and am familiar with much of that route.

Thanks but I will pass.
