Subject: RE: Capitolaman
Some people had a bad experience last year.
Take a look at this thread: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/cgi-bin/gforum.cgi?post=5267553;search_...
I heard from a participant that the bike course was bad; it took the riders on roads that had big trucks rolling on it. The leader apparently got lost; the motorcycle course abandoned him. If you look at the first year's results, it seems a contingent from southern california gave up after the bike portion. Participants were angry with the organizer who was insensitive and criticized participants. The organizer deleted all the discussion on the capitolaman Facebook page; that's why you see very few comments.
On the other hand, some participants seemed ok with the race like this local athlete:

Given the number of participants, I'm surprised it looks like the organizer is still going through with the second iteration, so I have to give him credit for that.
This year's bike course seems to be revamped. No idea how the roads look there.
Expect the turnout to be very small again. This is not an Ironman experience with masses of people.
ironman 70.3 santa cruz, formerly Big Kahuna, is the same weekend (on Sunday ) this year.
