Comments:

I knew this run might be a challenge. My left ankle/calf have been giving me a lot of trouble this past week. First mile was on the roads, wasn't too bad, then we moved to the trails - some gravel, some wood chip. I love running trails but it's not so good when you have a bad ankle. Walked a little more than I wanted to here and it got a little warm in the woods without the breeze back there. I actually felt better once we got back on the road and headed back to transition. I was hoping to do this run in under 45 minutes and made that so all in all, not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Not injure myself the week before the race!
Transition 1

Comments:

Comments:

I guess the time I've been spending on the trainer is paying off. This went pretty well. I passed several people and managed to make up some time that I had lost on the run. One thing the trainer doesn't do though is prepare you for the wind. One of the things about the course being in a flood plain - it's nice and flat for the most part but the winds can be brutal. We had some pretty strong headwinds on parts of the course but that also meant some pretty good tailwinds on other parts. My average speed was about what I expected so I'm happy with the results.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing special - just packing up and heading home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bad ankle

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race and I hope they bring it back next year.

We live in a fast-paced society and gym time seems more of a chore than an escape. Rushing through a workout not only yields fewer results but makes athletes prime candidates for injury.
