Pre-race routine:

Up at 510 am. Shower, coffee and diet pepsi- gotta have that caffeine! Packed up last minute stuff and left. Ate banana and some granola chips in the car.Had some water too and listened to some music.
Event warmup:

Ran to bathroom, got chip and numbers. Ran back to get set up in transition area.
Swim
  • 11m 53s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

A few moments of relaxed swimming but mostly just below hyperventilating. I knew I could do the distance just not used to all the people and dark water.
What would you do differently?:

stay to outside, start in front of pack vs. back.
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

FORGOT HELMUT! Daaaah! I was just going thru gate when an official yelled, you need a helmut!!! In my haste, I had forgotten to grab it.
Lots of grass got stuck all over feet. Threw on shirt, sun g's.
What would you do differently?:

skip socks - were too wet and stayed so for run.
Get helmut on head..
Bike
  • 58m 7s
  • 16 miles
  • 16.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Quads were burning a bit but I think it was fatigue. Need to build muscles. I swear my bike computer said I was going faster AND that the course was closer to 25 miles. I can't see how the miles differed so much.

What would you do differently?:

Push harder, more aero crouch too.
Transition 2
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

gulped down some gatorade.
What would you do differently?:

speed it up.
Run
  • 36m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow go. Painful at times. Now my ankle is puffed up too.
Saw Sarah Reinertson -- very inspirational.
What would you do differently?:

Walk whole way....not worth it to damage ankle.
Post race
Warm down:

sucked down lots of water. packed up and headed home. didn't stretch, hydrate and feed til long after home. Family brunch and rested a bit but then wound up running around public pool with son and errands... will sleep well tonight.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ankle.

Event comments:

Great DJ and support. Lots of great folks out on course. Would highly recommend race!

Got a bunch of water in the mouth and had some swim over me and I did the same. Hard to get by slower swimmers. When I got home to shower -- lots of creepy crud in tri suit top from lake.

Course: some rolling hills and some wind. But great scenery (yeah, should not be lookin' around so much). Had some issues with gears on decents...clicking noices. Didn't like groups that would ride 2-3 deep from side of road....made passing harder. And some speedy folks really cut it close passing people in general(inside, outside, between riders).

nice race! Every race is learning process. This was my 6th tri and there were lots of things I learned. You should be very proud that despite your injury issues, you pushed through. Too bad we didn't meet up.

thanks guys!
Did you see that shark dude? ha ha! Missed his swim but saw him running.

If I could change anything -- I'd suggest more portopotties!!!! Lines were long and slow. I got really nervous I would not get thru the lines by the time the race started ! ha ha!

Yeah, no more tri's for me this year...looks like they are done (at least local sprints) so I hope to be back next year for a couple and by then be stronger, faster and more clued in to what is done at these wild and wholly affairs! Tri's a lots of fun!
