Swim
  • 11m 39s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

There were so many people it was crazy you had people grabing your legs and hitting you with their arms the peope in frond would slow down and the people behind would try to go around. I don't think they planned we enough for the amount of people that signed up.
What would you do differently?:

Stay in the very-very back.
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Bike
  • 47m 19s
  • 13 miles
  • 16.48 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I was not familiar with the 15 second pass rule so I was weary passing people sometimes because I was scared I would get DQ. I think next time I might be a little more agressive on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m
What would you do differently?:

Take my shoes off as I was approaching the transition area
Run
  • 28m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I usually run between 24-25min 5K I don't think I praticed enough of the bike to run. My first mile was me just getting my legs back to sturdy feel.
What would you do differently?:

Pratice more on the trans from bike to run to prepare my legs
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and streched

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the swim, since this was my first one I don't think I was prepared enough for the craziness. I used a lot of my adrenelin to move me forward in the swim. I believe if I would have been more calm my time might have been better.

Event comments:

This was a great race and made me want to do more like them!

Awesome job, even with the crazy "washing machine"-like swim. It makes tris that much more, um, interesting!

Congrats on your great tri finish. I have been doing tris for a year now and the swim is always an adventure when you do the wave starts. I hope to see you at some more local tris in the years to come.

Heard from some participants that have done longer races that the swim was one of the more brutal ones they have been through ... and this from someone who has done an Ironman mass start.  So, the silver lining is that your next race ought to be easier in terms of 'the washing machine effect'.

Do not sweat the "15 second rule" on passing - essentially all you have to do is pass the person in front of you within 15 seconds ... or stay 3 bike lengths behind.  15 seconds is actually a lot longer than you think, so if even if you are going just a little bit faster than the person in front of you then you ought to be able to pass within that timeframe.

As far as the penalty, it is not DQ but 2:00 minutes added to your finish time. DQ's generally are life threatening/injury things such as not riding with a helmet, not having bar end plugs (they can impale you) and so forth.

Congratulations on the finish.  Results were just poster here: http://www.doitsports.com/newresults3/client/11114_78515_2006.txt
