Overcast
Total Time = 1h 16m 44s
Overall Rank = 31/221
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Got a great night's rest in Marshalltown hotel, up at 6 am, and got to the race by 7:30 am. After set up, took a short bike ride, went thru the gears, and took a short run.
Event warmup:

Bike, run, minimal stretching
Swim
  • 09m 18s
  • 550 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Need to work on incorporating smooth transition from swimming to navigation back to swimming. Too much zig-zagging.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Just need to get faster. BOTH races this weekend I forgot to unstrap my bike shoes and pull out the tongues.!!
What would you do differently?:

See above
Bike
  • 42m 13s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Biking will be my focus going forward. I can avg around 21 on an average course, but the hills here brought my speed down. However, others in my AG were averaging 22-23 mph, which is where I need to get.
What would you do differently?:

I will incorporate more speed work into my biking going forward, just as I have with running.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

All went well
What would you do differently?:

Again, need to pull out the tongue on running shoes ahead of time!!!
Run
  • 22m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

A great race, very well organized, and the toughest course I have done yet.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention to details (shoes) in transitions.
Post race
Event comments:

Great race. It rained and blew in biblical proportions immediately after the race.My best finish yet, both overall and within age group.

Congrats!! This was by far my most difficult course as well. The second half of the ride hurt me pretty good and the hill on the run did a number on me with the side aches and cramping. Your times are awesome.

Do you by any chance know if the results have been posted yet? I had to leave right after the race because of the storm and haven't had a chance to see how I did.
