Pre-race routine:

Got up, had 1/2 a harvest bar, did a little stretch. Bob and I left for the race ~6:00am. Inevitable bathroom runs at race site.
Event warmup:

Light jogging, light stretching.
Run
  • 28m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Still just happy to be able to jog the 5K without having to walk. Deliberately tried to keep HR <145 for mile 1, <150 for mile 2, <155 for mile 3, then whatever for the last 0.1 to the finish line. Everything worked out as planned.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

walking, light jogging, light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training, foot issues.

Event comments:

Very happy with how it turned out.

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?
