Pre-race routine:

Same old, same old. Got up, drove two hours on black ice through the freezing rain, ate breakfast in the parking lot.
Event warmup:

Parked a mile away. Had to walk around to find the event site. Visited the vendors and then found a place to sit for about a half hour before my race started. My left leg was already tired and sore. I was pretty tense from the drive down, but was able to get relaxed by the time the race started.
Run
  • 43m 3s
  • 2.86 miles
  • 15m 03s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Maybe take some Ibuprofen pre-event.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some post-race snacks, went to Burger King, and then visited a couple of bike shops before heading home in a blizzard.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My left leg was sore and stiff. My hips also started getting sore with about a half mile to go, and I slowed to a fast walk. My leg and hips are my limitations. By mile 2, I am always in severe pain.

In November of 2000, I noticed that I was losing the feeling in my toes. The sensation traveled up my body and within a week, I was nearly 80% paralyzed.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
