Comments: Had bad stomach flu 2 days prior to race. Didn't think I'd even be able to race. But at mile 11 I realized I had a chance of breaking last year's time so I gave it a good try and was only 1 min off my xterra PR. New hydration technique: carry flask to sip between aid stations. Try to drink small sips every 5-10 min. Ate tums, endurolyte pills & 3 espresso gels. Poured ice water on head. Lifted up tank top to cool core. No cramping, didn't feel thirsty. Tried to keep a steady jog even though it was slow at times. My technical agility on uneven and muddy sections was excellent due to lots of hiking last 3 mos. Longest running leading up to this was only 7 mI and week before didn't train much. Also have been training in hot conditions. Feel like I have a chance at redeeming myself at next Honu now. What limited your ability to perform faster: Stomach flu was a little weak. Curious to see what I can do next year Last updated: 2014-10-28 12:00 AM
