Total Time = 1h 50m 43s
Overall Rank = 900/4956

Pre-race routine:

Protein bar and caffeine for breakfast on the car ride and a pre-race visit to the porta-potty.
Sadly I was almost to the race when I realized I had forgotten my timing chip and race bib. Fortunately my wife was b hind me and able to bring it with her.
Event warmup:

Light stretching in the corral
Run
  • 1h 50m 43s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run, wasn't trying to set the world on fire as this was basically a training run for New Orleans half Iron the following week.
What would you do differently?:

Remembered my timing chip!
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water and chocolate milk and began the long walk back to the car. Once there I did some cool down stretches and relaxed for a bit before going home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't try to go faster. I guess use this as a training run limited my pace.

Event comments:

The only issue I really had was the lack of good choices for post race food. They had frozen custard and peanuts and chocolate milk (thank god), but nothing truly of substance. No bread, bananas, etc.
however I have done this race almost every year since it started and it still ranks as one of my favorite. I will continue coming back.

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
