I was either going to do that or the one in Kamloops. I picked the one in Kamloops after the flip of a coin and I think there is going to be more people on the course in Kamloops. Seeing as I have only done one triathlon I wanted to do one that Had more people on the course at the same time.

Please let me know how it was if you go! I might check it out next year

How many are doing the Kamloops race?

As of right now for the Cherry Blossom, there are 178 individual entries, and 39 relay entries.

I think last year there were 107 individual finishers in it's first year, and they had more room this year and are pretty close to selling out. Small crowd though compared to some races though :p

With the pool swim at the beginning with a seeded start time, there will also be less congestion and passing, so the course might seem a little more empty cause of that as well, but it is a 3 loop bike course.

It's going to be my first, since the previous races I was registered for I had to back out of due to accidents from bike injuries!!

It's kind of funny that I started tri training 4 1/2 years ago, and only now am doing my first triathlon. :p

I have no idea how many people are sign up for the kamloops one. last year it had more people so i just went with those numbers. It looks like i may have made the wrong choice haha. That is a huge jump in numbers! Oh well maybe the numbers for kamloops went up to.

Good luck on your first race! if you have been training for four years you should kill it!! do you have a goal time? I will be trying to cut around 5 min from my last race (sounds like a bike cut but this swim is meters 100 shorter).

where in BC do you live?

700m pool swim, 22 km bike and 5k run.

Bike has 3 loops with a single climb each loop, they've got a hill climb competition set up too.

Run is mostly on gravel/dirt path with a little road, which will slow us down a little, plus I suck at running LOL ( not too surprising given my injuries, and the extended periods that I couldn't run at all )

Based on testing, I'm hoping I can hit 1:15 including transitions, if I can, I'll be pretty thrilled.

I actually live in Kelowna, making the Cherry Blossom a pretty easy choice for me!

The training has been "on and off" due to injuries, first one being busting my femur and collarbone getting hit by a car on the bike, no work for 7 months, no running for 2 years.

Then after 6 months of ramping up, some super tight quads from a muscular imbalance cause SEVERE ITB issues.

Last April I had a self inflicted bike crash FIRST outdoor ride of the season, tearing my meniscus and quad ( same side as busted femur ) and tore a wrist ligament. No running the rest of the year, and cycling was just super easy stuff with the kids.

After 2 1/2 months off of work, I had to spent several months in the gym once I was strong enough to get my leg strength back.

Completing this thing if anything will be a testament to my perseverance, LOL!

What about you for times and where you live?

the swim is 600 meters and I want to get it in under 11:20 the bike is 20 km and my goal is under 33 and the run is either 4.5 km or 5km and I want to do it on pace for an under 20:00 5km, not sure how long T1 and T2 are going to be but I want to be in the top 3 in both T1 and T2

crappy luck on getting hurt! I had a pretty bad broken back 5 years ago. I had to learn how to walk again and had to relearn how to run because my body had forgot. I'm still working on getting my stride better but its light years ahead of where it was 3 years ago. then last year a tore my MCL and meniscus. I have just started running again 2 months ago. I just started racing and my first tri was April 5th it was fun but I want to do better. I live in Vancouver but i'm away for work at least two thirds of the year.

Post up a race report in here after and ill do the same!

Ouch, so we're in pretty similar boats then ( but you're a FAR better runner than me, LOL )

My best open 5k this year was ~23 minutes, and I did a race simulation brick session where I was just under a 25 minute 5k after doing just over 20 kms on the bike @ 35.6 km/h

I've been run focused this year as it's my weakness, but still not where I was before my ITB and meniscus/quad tears.

I'll definitely throw up a race report after!

Ditto!  Wow you two are inspiration for anyone who has had to deal with injuries.  Congrats to you both for not letting them hold you back!
