Pre-race routine:

This was late in the day and just a fun run. Normal Saturday stuff before-hand. Then at about 4:00 DH, DS1 and I left for the race. Once we got there we stood around for a while. When the bag check line started to get long we jumped in line and gave up our warm shirts
Event warmup:

not much. Stand around and shiver
  • 34m 27s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 53s  min/km

This was super fun! I took it easy and ran (and walked) with DH at his pace. It was slightly rolling hills with a mix of pavement, trail, grass. When DH decided to walk (again) at about 1/2 mile to go I tried to encourage him to keep going by telling him people would pass him and get his beer. DH is not one to give in to peer pressure, ever. The last 10th of a mile or so he dicided to kick it, so we sprinted. DS1 does that too. WTH?!

DH was 23rd in his age group. WTH?!
DS1 did the mile rather than the 5k but was really happy with his sub 10 min time.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

We got in line to get in to the beer garden and had a Boxing Bear beer. Stood around and talked to R & M. Got chilly after a few minutes and we were able to get our bag from within the beer garden. Win! Had some great beer from Boxing Bear.

The pic is (L to R) DH, M, R, me, DS1

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Took it easy and ran with DH

Event comments:

This was a lot of fun and the organizers did pretty well for a first-year race. Hopefully next year they will work out the issues with the lines for the beer garden and get more of the local craft breweries involved.

Yay, more family running fun together!  I love that about your family.  Big congrats to DH, DS1, and you!  DH may not cave to peer pressure, but what about BEER pressure?   Nice tactic, but it sounds like it didn't work.

Funny story, DH had to show the pic to the people he works with because they didn't believe he ran it with me
