Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Setup and walk around with my wife (Tammy).. Talk to a few people - just hang out.
Event warmup:

Swim a bit, stretch, relax.
Swim
  • 13m 37s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

Thought I was doing better than I did.. this was slower than my first time - by over 3 minutes.. Really need to work on the swim.

Suit / HR strap seems tight. Need to loosen up more.
What would you do differently?:

Keep swimming, swim a little more "purposefully" - better form while maintaining a high stroke rate.

Practice, practice, practice...
Transition 1
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Need to keep practicing my transitions. I put on my socks / shoes before running with the bike.. This is taking a bit longer than I would like.
What would you do differently?:

Keep experimenting to find a better faster way.
Bike
  • 39m 20s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.31 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was having issues with the front shifter, would not drop into small chain ring. I have had this fixed.

Passed quite a few people on the bike course. Went well. -
What would you do differently?:

Better maintenance on the bike. Put in a better gear to start off.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

After dismounting, while running into T2 - I fell.. Trying to do too many things at once and not really sure what happened. Front wheel came towards me and slipped on the sand.

Left shin bloody, right forearm bruised, right knee bruised. Oh well...
What would you do differently?:

Stay upright?

It is a decent length run from dismount into T2 - need to practice running with the bike. This is along a sandy (ish) beach.. stay further left closer to woods / grass.
Run
  • 33m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

Here is where all the people I pass on the bike pass me back. I did better than I thought, still room for improvement.

This was one of my fastest runs.
What would you do differently?:

Keep running and practicing... Need to do more speed work.

Push a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

walk around and drink some water / sports drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It is where I am currently at...

Fall w/ the bike didn't help, swim can be better (smoother).

Event comments:

Faster than first time... room to improve.

HEAT had a pot luck dinner afterwards. Great to have time to chat with other like minded folks!

I'm not quite half way into my IM training. I just raced a sprint and on Monday I woke up and felt like I'd been drugged! Not sore, just incredibly fatigued.
