I am thinking about buying a resistance trainer for the winter. Does anyone have any recommedations? I would like to stay under $150. I have looked on Amazon and the reviews are all over the board on the one's I have looked at.

I have a Travel Trac comp fluid trainer which costs $139.99 at Performance Bicycle. I bought it last year when my last trainer went belly up and I've put 140 hours on it and have been very happy with it.

Which is better - fluid resistance or magnetic resistance?

Fluid. Look for a Kurt Kinetic. New would be more than your stated price so you might need a used one. Either way, it has been, far & away the best training tool investment I have made.

I bought a used Kurt Kinetic on eBay about two years a go and have used it a lot. No problems and no regrets.

I would definitely go with fluid. I have used both and fluid is much smoother with more of a road feel. You should be able to find some cycle ops used for around your price range. That said I have a cycleops magnetic trainer that I would sell cheap if interested. Barely used.

x3, the KK road machine is bulletproof and excellent customer service if ever needed.

Checkout Craigslist, you can find them a lot cheaper on there, that's where I got mine.  Also look for CycleOps Fluid2 trainers, not as bulletproof but also have excellent customer service.

I took your advice and got a Kurt Kinetic on eBay for $122. If I can get the seller to contact me and tell me the shipping cost, I'll be all set.

Thansk for the recommendation.
