Pre-race routine:

Drove down early for packet pickup. Made two blue room breaks. Sat in the sun and enjoyed it.
Event warmup:

Did some high knee steps in the parking lot.
Run
  • 38m 35s
  • 3.32 miles
  • 11m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran as fast as I could. Tried to concentrate on the current mile. Everyone who was going to pass me did so within the first quarter mile, and then I held my position. I passed Batman at one point, but then he passed me again, and we did that a couple of times until he finally kept his position ahead of me. When I got about a half mile from the finish line, I could hear someone coming up behind me, so I pushed myself as hard as I could to hold my position, which I did. I shaved almost ten minutes off my time from last year (48:31)
What would you do differently?:

Push myself a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Found a post to sit on and cheered the other racers in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My body.

Event comments:

Fun, fast 5K.

In November of 2000, I noticed that I was losing the feeling in my toes. The sensation traveled up my body and within a week, I was nearly 80% paralyzed.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
