Pre-race routine:

My second race in the USATF SoCal Cross Country Grand Prix Series (following the Bell-Jeff Open last weekend). Carpooled to race with Liz and one of our New Basin Blues running club teammates.
Event warmup:

Did about 3/4 mile jog on the course with a few striders.

Comments:

Much better race than last week...more flat sections to course and I'd studied the elevation profile pretty carefully. Still a very fast field...although there wasn't team scoring in this meet, it was still marketed heavily to club teams, including a couple with former pro runners.

Good effort...happy to finish as far up as I did: First three guys in my 10-year age group were all under 30 minutes...pretty hardcore for 50 y.o+ runners in a small field.

Threatening rain held off. Felt good, except that I got my first bad mid-back spasm since last spring about 3/4 of a mile in. It passed, but my back is still a mess 36 hours later (though improving).
What would you do differently?:

Still coming back from two month layoff in July/August.
Post race
Warm down:

Some jogging/walking. Watched for Liz to come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injury layoff.

Event comments:

Low key, but very competitive local cross country race. Part of USATF SoCal Cross Country Grand Prix series.

I decided that, after having a new hip put in 11 months ago, I needed a new lifestyle. Just wondering if there's anything that I should know about-especially for the running and biking.
